Bird Research in eastern Turkey

Noel Hohenthal will be talking about Aras bird station, the research that he is conducting in Aras, which questions he is investigating and the processes for finding answers to them, as well as his personal experiences of being a young “amateur researcher”.

Noel is a 21-year-old from the Southwest of Sweden who is studying Psychology at the University of Umeå. He first became interested in ringing and bird research when he was on work experience at Ottenby bird station as a 15 year-old. After that he was hooked and returns there as often as he can. In the spring of 2021 he tested his own wings by becoming the lead ringer at Aras bird station in eastern Turkey. While there he discovered that certain facts were missing or didn’t reconcile with current literature and decided to investigate further in co-operation with other established researchers.
