The Honey Buzzard Day

The Honey Buzzard Day was arranged for the first time in 1992. The purpose of this special day is to make people aware of the need for the protection of birds and create opinion against hunting that threatens our migratory birds especially around the Mediterranean.

The Honey Buzzard Day takes place on the Sunday of Falsterbo Bird Show and in the showground everyone who is interested can watch and follow Honey Buzzards and other migrating raptors as they pass the Falsterbo peninsula on their way to southern latitudes.

During the Honey Buzzard Day the Swedish Ornithological Society, along with Focus Nordic AB, awards the title “The Arctic Tern of the Year”, to a prominent female birdwatcher and “Birdwatcher of the year” to a young, promising birdwatcher. The winners receive prizes such as binoculars or spotting scopes.
