Talk on Saturday 31/8 at 14:35: "A success story for bird conservation – Anna Giordiano tells all"

More than a thousand raptors, mainly honey buzzards of which several were from the Nordic countries, were shot in Sicily during the spring migration when, nearly 40 years ago, Anna Giordiano began devoted work against this barbaric hunt. The work has been a success – now the shooting happens on the odd occasion but often not at all. The magnificent migration route, previously almost unknown, has now been mapped. Despite threats of various kinds, including bomb attacks on her car and her office, Anna Giordiano has continued untiringly. Volunteers from around the world have helped with the work and contributed to its success. After many years the police and customs agents have started to take the problem seriously. She has been recognised internationally and in 1998 was awarded the coveted Goldman prize. Listen to this bird conservation success story.

(On Saturday at 16:00-16.30 Anna will also be a guest on ”Martin’s soffa” – Anna Giordano & Cecilia Wide – Anna drog igång arbetet mot jakt på rovfåglar i Sicilien redan på 1980-talet och Cecilia, som var mycket engagerad i Bivråkens Dag, var med och stödde detta arbete. Not to be missed!)
